Improvements before deadline

Some of the improvements we needed was mostly the quality and the lighting that we needed to fix, in the mirror scene where Layla is singing into the mirror was originally quite dark. When I asked my peers if they thought this as well they agreed with me and said that we should try to refilm if we can, however since we were tight on schedule we decided to first try and edit it so that it wasn't as dark which seemed to work just fine. We also had other base tracks like the ones we filmed in Camden and I watched all of them. I then noticed that I wasn't looking at the camera much and it looked very awkward and wasn't running smoothly and that we ran into a couple people and other people disturbed us whilst we were filming so we decided to completely take it off as it just didn't look good with it. We have completed all the improvements that was set to us by our peers and teachers.

Reflection on filming since last Monday

We haven't yet got a shot to start the music video, therefore we need to take some establishing shots to set the location as a starting point for our base tracks. Also, some clips from the car park scene were too blurry so we have to re-film to get more clear footage; more close ups and extreme close ups to see Layla lip syncing the lyrics. To improve our video, there will need to be more quirky shots of Layla without lip syncing and more clips of background imagery because although our song is performance based, the video doesn't have to solely focus on Layla and she doesn't have to be present in every clip.  We still have to shoot the scene in the white screen room. This will consist of Layla singing whilst being projected with memories of her and Bilal that we previously shot in Dilara's house. These shots will be taken from different angles and will have close ups, mid shots and long shots so we have a variety. There has to be a differentiation between the verse and the chorus, to ensure this, the chorus will be performance based where there will be quirky moves outside the areas of our base tracks, however the verse will have her singing. During the chorus, we will have faster cut outs to match the beat of the song. Some of our shots are too long, so we need to cut into them more often as the scenes can become quite repetitive at times.

Overview of lesson- 30th november

 

For the chorus of the song we are going to include the green screen footage where the artist is singing in front of the camera in a mid shot.  We are going to add a colour filter which changes the colour throughout the video.  Initially, the idea was having three base tracks layed over eacher with three different colours, however due the contrast it made the image look grey. Therefore we had to alter our idea, instead we came up with having one image of the artist but with different colours that changes through out the video.

Reflection on my blogging

I think that my blogging may have improved but not drastically. Last year my marks were pretty much the same and I did go up a grade both last year and this year however I think I have left a huge gap in my blogging when we were out to film which may have dropped my marks down. I think that if I were to give myself a mark out of 20 I would give myself a 14, I think I have a variety of different ICT. However I think I need to improve on being up to date and to be more detailed about my blogging.

Blogging Health Check - 2

Dilara this is much improved. Lovely to see some of the first shots of the video posted during half term! The brand on the blog background is strong - I'd like to see more photos of Layla - our artist. She's hiding at the moment and I don't have strong enough sense of who she is. If you'd done the photos for the ancillary this would help rectify this. Interesting HUGE flurry of activity on 7th October I note!!  Targets as follows:
1) complete individual research posts on synergy (blog task 13 research) and analysis of original video (or similar Ellie vid) (blog task 17). These will show individual input well and raise marks.
2) show what revisions you have done with your ideas and production schedule since the pitch - action on the feedback must be shown.
3) make sure your OWN ideas for digipack and website are posted - I'm not sure if they are your ideas or the groups at the moment - it will help you a lot when you come to design your own to have worked o them now.

Class Feedback

The class particulary liked the  transitions from shot to shot, the shoreditch scene was very popular. They liked how we sped it up which added a sense of humour to it.
They also said the signature mark was very visble in all scene, which was the henna tattoo below her eye.
However they thought the beginning scene was too long, and we need to change it up and instead the second scene we should lenghten.
One of the shots were blurred at the beginning, therefore we will have to refilm this shot.

REFLECTION ON PROGRESS-1

My progress grade is a C, I hope to improve my skills in editing, aswell as being up-to date with my blogging. I would also have to use different technologies to present my work, which I gave my self as a target, in order for me to go up a grade. I believe I have gained more skills, with editing, I have learnt to use the Warp stabiliser, adding different colour filters, from changing the duration speed to fast or slow and learning how to perfecet slow motion From working on this task, it has helped me be adventurous with ideas for filimng. Being able to express my ideas in form of a music video was great. Although I do need to work on my time keeping, therefore I will need to spend more time on blogs and give myself time to complete tasks.

Friday 13th November 2015

On Friday, we went to the green screen room to film a base track.We dressed Layla in a casual outfit which consisted of a white t-shirt with cut out sleeves, a pair of blue jeans and white adidas superstars. We put a fan in front of her while filming to create dramatic wind in the shot so her hair flies back. We also placed the tripod in front of her so that we could get a mid shot of her. The mid shot was effective as it was far enough to see her top half of her outfit yet close enough to see her lip syncing clearly.

Tuesday 17th November 2015

On Tuesday we met up at college to pick up a camera from the media office which meant that we could continue filming without any disturbances. We then had to go back to Wood Green to complete the car park base track. It was successful as we had the top light therefore our footage came out bright and one level of brightness, meaning that no parts of the video were brighter than others. We then went to Dilara's house to film her bedroom scene with Bilal who was acting like her male partner that she's singing about. We filmed them being close, hugging and play fighting to show that they are a happy couple. We dressed Layla in a long black evening dress as we imitated the original music video. In this scene Layla is staring into the mirror and lip syncing the lyrics of the song which through editing, we will make it seem as though Bilal is staring into the mirror looking back at Layla's reflection of her singing. We wanted to film a street scene where we film Layla and Bilal walking down the road together, however it became too dark to continue filming

Monday 16th November 2015

On Monday we went to PC World to get a new SD card as the previous one was faulty. We then went to Camden Road Station and recorded another base track on the main road. This turned out successful, however the new SD card also warned us of 'recording failure'. At this point we realised that it was possibly an issue with the camera so we were unable to continue filming that day. This was a disruption to our filming plans as we also wanted to film at Dilara's house in order to use the other days for blogging and re-shooting old scenes. We contacted the media staff and arranged a time for us to pick up a different camera. However we did manage to shoot some clips from camden before the camera stopped working.

Sunday 15th November 2015

We went to Wood Green car park and tried to reshoot a base track that we will be using at the beginning of our music video. The first shooting of this scene didn't go to plan because the lighting was too dark which looked unprofessional. When we tried to film it again, halfway through, the camera was repeatedly warning us of 'recording failure'. This meant that we had to buy a new SD card as the college was shut so we couldn't get a replacement. 

The photograph below is one of the main reasons that we decided to re shoot this particular scene as the lighting was too dark therefore you couldn't see the artist lip syncing the words properly. Also in this scene, it mainly consists of medium shots, which isn't effective as a music video should contain various shots to capture the artists expressions and feelings towards the audience.

Blogging healthcheck 2

Overall I am pleased with my progress grade of a C, however I feel that I could've done a lot better if I completed the blogs that were due. Therefore I'm going to make sure I am consistent with my blogs and make sure that they are completed at the due date. I will also make sure I finish all the tasks set to get a higher grade which I am aiming for.
